After a very successful concert in 2018, AWC has been invited to sing again at St Andrew’s Church, Waiuku, for St David’s Day, which we will celebrate on Sunday 28th March 2021. This year, we are celebrating St David’s Day a little later than usual, due to another engagement in early March. Our last visit to St Andrew’s (2019)  was very special and we were greeted by a large and enthusiastic audience. We hope that circumstances will again allow us to entertain and delight you.

We will open with our favourite Welsh songs but our repertoire this year connects us to a wider world and our delight in music from a range of cultures. Karl Jenkins’ Haiku (in Japanese) recognises all who have died, or suffered great loss over the past year through Covid-19 and other tragedies. Y Tangnefeddwyr praises the Peacemakers. Steven Rapana (our new co-director of music and long-time friend of the choir) brings his own adaptation of Hen Wlad and his fine tenor voice brings Daffyd y Gareg Wen poignantly alive. English and American songs remind us of the cycle of seasons in our lives. Nearer home, we celebrate the World Premier of Diana Rhodes’ anthem to the Kuaka (the godwit) as they wing their way north for the Northern summer. Steven has arranged a medley of sacred Pacifica hymns and we close with Jazz items which we hope will send you home singing along with us.
